The World of James Herriot
Opened in Spring 1999 in the old premises of Alf White on Kirkgate, this centre provides an interactive insight to the quiet vet turned author. Open the whole year through. Visit it online.

The Racecourse

Treske
Open from April to September this centre shows how the hardwood furniture is manufactured at this site. There are a number of exhibits demonstrating craftsmen at work. You can see even more of their wares at the Treske Web Site.

Sutton Bank
From the top of Sutton Bank it is possible to see as far as the Pennines (on a clear day!). With ample parking on the top it is an ideal place to leave your car and walk through natural woods and paths of the Hambleton Hills.

The White Horse
Visible from as far afield as York. This landmark is carved into the hillside in 1857 by a local schoolmaster. It is 314feet long and 228 feet high.

Mouseman Visitor Centre
Learn all about Robert Thompson and how he started by making cart wheels and then became the world famous Mouseman of Kilburn. Smashing furniture that can be viewed in the process of development. Tel: 0044 1347 868222 for opening times.

Shandy Hall
Situated at Coxwold, just south of Thirsk, this is the house that Laurence Stern lived in when he wrote "Tristram Shandy" and a "Sentimental Journey" in the 1760's. This cottage is now over 500 years old.

Newburgh Proiry
A medieval country manor still inhabited today by the Earls of Fauconberg. The house and gardens are open to the public on Sundays and Wednesdays from Easter to July, as well as the August Bank Holiday.
